ROCKFORD – Belvidere sent two teams to the summer season-ending softball tournament at the Riverdahl Elementary School complex July 24-25 and sponsored by the Mean Machine travel team.
The Lady Bucs 16-U squad finished with a 3-2 record, good for third place among the eight teams in that age group. The 14-U team wound up 0-4 with a tie.
Autumn Korotasz hit a two-run homer to spark Saturday’s first game, an 8-3 victory over 16-U Amboy. Kalene Abraham had a two-run double to support solid pitching by Tegan Humphry.
The second game was another matter as the Crystal Lake Tidal Waves rolled over Belvidere, 12-0.
But the Lady Bucs bounced back in Saturday’s third and final game, defeating Janesville, Wis., 7-1, behind the two-hit pitching of Humphry and Amanda Blankenship. Jessica Cross and Brittney Stowers had two-run singles as Belvidere put the game away with a four-run fifth inning.
Belvidere finished as the No. 2 seed in its pool and faced Oswego in Sunday first game, at 8 a.m. The Lady Bucs won, 8-2, as Humphry threw a complete game two-hitter and Korotasz drove in two runs.
But Belvidere ran into the No. 1 seed from the other pool in the second game and lost, 13-0.
Belvidere’s 14-U team opened Saturday morning by tying Downers Grove, 1-1. Then they lost to the Stateline Fury, 5-1, and Kishwaukee Valley, 8-7, to close out that day’s play. Sunday morning, in a rematch with Downers Grove, they dropped a 5-2 decision. In the second game, also a rematch, they lost to Stateline, 11-3.
