BELVIDERE - Belvidere Police detectives arrested a Rockford man on charges of attempted murder July 25.
Christian Antczak, 19, of Rockford, was charged with two counts of attempted murder (class x felony). Antczak is currently being held in the Boone County jail with no bond.
Just before 1:30 a.m. July 25, Belvidere patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Northwood and Highline drives in Belvidere in reference to an accident. Officers arrived and discovered that two people had allegedly been struck by a vehicle which had left the scene.
The offending vehicle was located abandoned approximately one mile away. A short time later, a Boone County Sheriff’s deputy allegedly located Antczak walking in the area.
According to the Belvidere Police Department, the initial investigation indicates that a fight had broken out at a large party at a residence in the 1900 block of Northwood Drive. According to police, several people were involved in the fight when, police believe Antczak intentionally struck the victims with the vehicle.
The victims, Kriston Martin, 23, and Jessica Leanos, 20, were taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford by Life Line Ambulance. Both victims remain at St. Anthony’s Hospital, where Martin is listed in critical condition and Leanos is listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible. A class x felony is punishable by six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
